In a country where courage is often measured by the criminal destruction of man by man, where men are often regarded as mere tools for the good of the rich and the powerful, where many people who are in privileged positions use those positions to circumvent and arrogate everything beneficial to themselves and their close relations, where we often display tacit approval and cynical indifference to the suffering of our people, this book is a brief survey of the philosophical and theological foundations on which Martin Luther King Junior’s faith as a willing sacrificial lamb, an avowed advocate of social justice and an apostle of nonviolent resistance was rooted. It is a study in nonviolent liberation theology which is meant to conscientize us and to ginger us to action for peace and justice in Nigeria. It is a call to peace-loving and patriotic Nigerians for solidarity and concerted nonviolent action against injustice, exploitation, oppression, dehumanization and misrule. It is an appeal for a mental revolution akin to that which turned King into a nonviolent firebrand that forced white America to bow down to the dictates of her conscience and to set the oppressed blacks free.
