Colonel Abubakar Umar is a Harvard-trained political scientist, who passed through that world-famed prestigious educational institution, and allowed the institution to pass through him. He is a disciplined and high-ranking military officer who passed through the rigours of military training and allowed the regimented culture of military training to pass through him. He is an all-round intellectual wizard who has decided to invest his intelligence and entire life in the liberation of the downtrodden. He is a Fulani by tribe and Muslim by religion that God has presented to those of us who commit atrocities in the name of tribe and religion as a model of peace, unity and progress. He is an indisputable scion of the Sokoto Caliphate who discarded the toga of influence to enable him take the identity of traumatised Nigerians who are enslaved in the name of leadership, fight for their right and freedom, and give them hope. He is Muslim who has no trace of religious prejudice in his blood, a social justice crusader, and a man of the people, a patriotic Nigerian and the hero of Nigerian democracy. As far as the struggle for the stabilization of democracy and good governance in Nigeria is concerned, as far as the battle to dethrone injustice and enthrone justice is concerned, as far as the struggle for a better Nigeria where ethnicity and religion will not constitute vehicles of hatred, division and regression is concerned, I wish to say that Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar has fought the good fight. This book explores the reason for ascribing to this great man the tributes listed here. It is the author’s way of propagating the sacrifices and the immense contribution he has been making to ensure a better Nigeria.
